THE FEEDBACK STORY
From 2020 to Now
Feedback is an Australian rock band based in the South West Region of Western Australia. The band was formed in August 2020 by guitarist Darcy Potter, bassist Elijah De Coppi and drummer Kason Knox when they were in Year 9. Feedback started off as primarily a school band, performing covers of rock and metal bands at school concerts, but now have songs on various streaming platforms and perform out of school. The band’s lineup currently consists of founding members Darcy Potter (lead guitar) and Elijah De Coppi (rhythm guitar) as well as Harry Young (bass) and Zavier Noonan (drums, piano and cello). Former members of the band include Kason Knox, Will Granger and Kian Stapleton.
2020
Feedback was formed in August 2020 by guitarist Darcy Potter, bassist Elijah De Coppi and drummer Kason Knox. The three founding members performed an instrumental cover of AC/DC’s ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ for a school concert. After performing, they decided to continue with the band. After weeks of rehearsals, Feedback performed at a school Christmas concert, playing a parody/cover of AC/DC’s ‘Rock N Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution’ dubbed ‘Rockin’ Rudolph the Saint’s Solution’.
2021
In January 2021, the three founding members recruited bassist Harry Young, as Elijah switched to the position of rhythm guitarist. Rehearsals started once again at the start of 2021, and the four members kept practicing various tracks by AC/DC; ‘Rejection’, ‘Back in Black’, ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ and ‘T.N.T’, as well as Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. After 10 weeks of rehearsals, Feedback performed an instrumental medley of AC/DC tracks at a school assembly: Harry’s debut performance with the band. They played the tracks ‘T.N.T’, ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ and ‘Back in Black’.
In late March, the band recruited vocalist and pianist Kian Stapleton and they continued working on AC/DC’s ‘Rejection’. On the 12th of May, the band performed ‘Rejection’ to a large crowd of rowdy teenagers at another school concert which was Kian’s debut performance with Feedback.
After performing ’Rejection’, Feedback steered away from AC/DC and started writing their own music. On a Wednesday in late June, Elijah, Harry and Darcy started writing what would be Feedback’s debut single: ‘News of the World’. The song was written during a rehearsal with acoustic guitars and was later transferred to amplified instruments. The lyrics in the song were written by guitarists Elijah and Darcy. The single was recorded over two afternoons, the first day being rhythm sections and the second being lead and vocal sections. ‘News of the World’ was released worldwide on the 23rd of July and remains Feedback’s most popular song.
To promote ‘News of the World’, Feedback performed at a music showcase where they performed ‘News of the World’ and a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Fortunate Son’. The videos from both performances were uploaded to the band’s YouTube channel and ‘News of the World (Live)’ was released on various streaming platforms on the 13th of August.
After a few weeks of ‘News of the World (Live)’ being out, Feedback started planning for what would be their debut EP ‘Triptych’. The three songs on the EP were written over the course of 2 months and were all recorded in a 6 hour session. The band collaborated with other artists and lyricists such as Zavier Noonan and D. Phillips in songs such as ‘The Way It Was Before’ and ‘12 Volt World’ and were all inspired by different artists. Each track on the EP falls under a separate sub-genre of rock. The songs were released on the 29th of October, and can be streamed on various platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
In late November, Kason announced his departure from Feedback to the band. He would be moving away at the end of the year, meaning he would have to leave the band and Feedback would have to search for a new drummer. Kason’s last performance with the band was on the 3rd of December, where the band played their tracks ‘Bad Haircut’, ‘12 Volt World’ and ‘The Way It Was Before’ as well as AC/DC’s ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ for a school concert. The audio from the live performances of ‘Bad Haircut’ and ‘12 Volt World’ were released as a single: ‘Bad Haircut/12 Volt World (Live 3rd of December, 2021)’ a seven minute live track that commemorates Kason’s final performance with the band. Kason’s departure was announced on the band’s Instagram page on the 31st of December.
2022
In late January 2022, Feedback started rehearsals with their new drummer Will Granger, rehearsing covers of Metallica’s ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and Green Day’s ‘When I Come Around’ as well as beginning to write songs for their debut album.
At about mid-June, Will decided to leave the band to focus on other things, so Feedback recruited Zavier Noonan, a friend and fellow musician who they had already worked with on 'The Way It Was Before'. The boys started playing gigs again in late June after COVID restrictions eased. They teased a section of a song from their debut album at two shows called 'Wrath of the Universe' on the 28th and 30th of June.
In early August 2022, Kian announced to his fellow band members that he would be leaving Feedback to pursue other ventures. This meant that guitarist Darcy would step in on lead vocals. All gigs went ahead as planned through to the end of 2022.
2023
On March 3rd, 2023, a pixelated image was uploaded to the band's Instagram page. This was the first sign of new music from Feedback for almost a year. The image uploaded was a pixelated image of the album cover of the band's debut LP 'Rising of the Sun, Falling of the Sky', featuring 5 new and 3 re-recorded tracks.
On the 4th of April, the first single of their debut album 'Pedal to the Metal' was released and the official announcement of the album was posted on the band's Instagram.
On the 7th of July, the band filmed and released the official music video for their song 'Pedal to the Metal', which racked up hundreds of views in just a few days. The video featured a guest appearance from the band's former drummer, Kason Knox, who played a police officer that chased the band around. The video was also the first appearance of Jarvis Russell as rhythm guitarist of Feedback, replacing founding member Elijah who decided to leave the band a few weeks earlier.
On the 21st of July, the band released the second and final single from their debut album: No Escape. No Escape is an experimental metal song, and some of the band's most innovative songwriting. An announcement about the song's release was posted to the band's Instagram, and a local rock news website 'The Rockpit' picked up on the release too, releasing an short article about the song.
On the 22nd of September, the band played their final school performance. They played AC/DC's 'You Shook Me All Night Long' for the last time in front of the students, staff members and parents at the school on their final day of Year 12.
On the 12th of December, the band announced that their debut album 'Rising of the Sun, Falling of the Sky' would be released on New Year's Day at 00:00.
